Content Marketing covers many forms from blog posts to social media, but most business owners are intimidated by the fact that this is all fueled by writing. Here are three easy steps to writing content that can be re-purposed into different forms.
1) Keep your ideal client in mind. Write for them; not for you. Remember to keep jargon to a minimum and explain it if you have to use it.
2) Outline! You heard this in Elementary school. Have an outline written out so you stay on topic. Keep bullets to a minimum so you don’t stray too far from your point. Having an outline means that your articles and posts will have a logical structure from beginning to end instead of sounding like a rambling rant.
3) Always end with a call to action!
Now that you’ve educated the reader what should they do with their new found knowledge? This doesn’t always mean to sell in your last breath. It can be a poll, a link to a related post, an invitation to a free seminar, a request for photos or simply an open question asking for comments. The idea is leave them with an action and keep the dialogue going.
These easy steps will help give a little boost when staring at a blank screen. The main thing is to continually publish items and your content will get better over time with feedback from your audience. You’ll learn which content resonates with your readers and which are just a big yawn! Once you’ve got a few solid items of content you can re-purpose them as blog posts, eBooks, articles and social media postings.
Go ahead and give it a try! Leave a link to your posts in the comments and ask your questions about content marketing.
